Alternative and Optional Wedding traditions

So you are getting married!  But you really want to make your ceremony stand out, be different, memorable?

There are a number of optional traditions – sometimes called wedding rituals -  that can be included in your ceremony.  Here are a few brief descriptions – go ahead and research them more if there is something you like the sound of, or contact me for further details!

Jumping The Broom:  Bursting with energy to launch into your new life together? This may be for you!  Literally jumping over a broom during the ceremony.

Handfasting: Tied together with love?  Want to demonstrate your binding commitment and togetherness?  Consider a handfasting!

Ring Warming – share the love by having the wedding rings passed around your guests who speak their wishes for you over the rings, before you place them on each other’s finger. Lovely for including all guests irrespective of age or ability.

Sand Ceremony: Layering and blending sand to demonstrate the layers and intricacy of your relationship.  Great for involving children and family members too!

Viking Ceremony: Share a drink from a vessel of your choosing -  traditionally a Viking Horn!  You can invite others to share too!

Unity Candle Ceremony: Lighting a candle together during your ceremony  represents the joining of two lives together.  You can invite significant guests to assist, including children under supervision, and of an appropriate age.

Wine Ceremony: Blend two wines together and share a drink – lovely, romantic gesture signifying a sharing and open relationship -  a great addition for wine lovers! (PS:   It doesn’t have to be wine – cocktails, other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks can be used too!)

Rose Ceremony -  give each other your first gifts as a married couple – exchange a rose of your choosing and afterwards, you can keep the rose / use the petals – whatever you wish!

Traditional Cultural elements from the culture of your choosing – Got an original idea?  Or something from your own culture / traditional background – fantastic! Let’s discuss it.
